Meet your Instructors

John McVey - Close Protection Lead Trainer

John is Continental's lead Security and Close Protection expert and trainer. He has over 35 years operational and strategic experience in security roles and in particular as a training professional. During his military service, John served with the British Army Close Protection Unit (CPU) as a Protection leader and trainer. John was attached to the UK Foreign and Commonwealth office on several worldwide assignments as the senior protection officer to Her Majesty’s UK Ambassadors.

The past 14 years on leaving the service, John has extended his experience in the commercial security industry taking up country manager and project manager/ consultancy roles throughout the Middle East, Central Asia and North Africa for companies such as Control Risks (Security), BP (Oil and Gas), The Movenpick Group (Hotels & Resorts) and Black and Veatch (Energy).

John has recently set up his own security manpower and consultancy company (Shield Global) that assist in offering Continental CP Candidates roles in the Close Protection Industry. He continues to carry out training and consultancy roles with strong core values, high standards of professionalism and a commitment to deliver a first-class service.

Matthew Reynolds

Matthew Reynolds - Centre Manager, Instructor

Matt is reponsible for the training division at Continental. He has over 20 years teaching and security experience using security as job to help him earn whilst undertaking his teaching degree. 

Whilst Matt is an active security professional where he has worked his way up from the bottom working as a Door Supervisor, Events team and Control Room Manager across range of diverse sectors. Matt specialises in instructor courses delivering our portfolio of teacher training courses upto teaching degrees, assessor courses and quality assurance. Matt has trained hundreds of other security and first aid instructors across the industry. Matt has created our own physical intervention model which is approved by the SIA as licensed model and designed various control and restraint and PMVA training to many of our clients within security and healthcare in the UK and abroad. 

In his spare time, Matt is an active Firefighter across West Sussex where he gets to respond to multiple incidents such as fires and road traffic collusions dealing with patients and clearing the way before its safe for the paramedics and Police to arrive.
